CRUISE COST LEDGER
Cruise trip cost: what the price includes
The cruise fare is not the whole trip cost. Your total starts with the cabin and taxes, then adds flights, hotels, transfers, gratuities, port days, internet and the services you will actually use onboard.

- Currency and occupancy matter

The short answer
How much does a cruise cost? Start with the scope
There is no single cruise cost for every trip from Saudi Arabia. Dates, region, ship, cabin category, traveller numbers, cabin occupancy, currency and availability affect the price. A quotation may look cheaper because it shows a per-person price based on two sharing, or leaves out taxes, gratuities, flights or a pre-cruise hotel.
A useful definition is: the amount the whole group expects to pay from leaving home until returning, including anticipated costs and their conditions. This does not turn an estimate into a quotation. A confirmed price requires a current written offer specifying the ship, dates, category, occupancy, currency, validity, inclusions and exclusions.
Compare quotations using the same dates, traveller numbers and currency. Cruise-only is not directly comparable with a flight, hotel and cruise package. A screenshot or search price does not guarantee availability: prices can change until the booking is confirmed under its terms.

Four layers reveal where the difference lies
The ship
- Base cabin fare for the stated occupancy
- Taxes and port charges shown in the confirmation
- Gratuities or service charges: included, prepaid or charged daily?
- Category or package benefits linked to the fare
Before sailing
- Flights, baggage and seats
- A pre-cruise hotel and arrival buffer
- Airport, hotel and port transfers
- Visas, insurance and transit requirements
Onboard
- Non-included drinks and drinks packages
- Internet, specialty dining and spa
- Chargeable activities, games or childcare
- Shopping, photographs, laundry and personal services
Ports and the return
- Shore excursions or independent port transfers
- Meals, shopping and activities ashore
- Disembarkation transfers, hotels or return flights
- Currency, change and contingency allowance
Read “inclusive” carefully
Common inclusions, conditional benefits and extras
Royal Caribbean's published fare guidance lists accommodation, selected complimentary dining, entertainment and activities, alongside optional extras such as premium drinks, specialty dining, excursions, internet and spa. This is a line-specific example, not a promise for every cruise. Use the table to ask questions and confirm the answers in your sailing's written offer.
| Item | Typical position | What to ask | Where to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cabin | Included | Category, capacity, cabin number or assignment method, and view | Booking confirmation and deck plan |
| Standard dining | Often included | Which venues, meals and times? Does room service carry a charge? | Fare description and ship app |
| Entertainment and facilities | Many activities included | Which need reservations, fees or an age or height requirement? | Your specific ship's guide |
| Taxes and port charges | Depends on offer and market | Are they included in the displayed price? Are there local port charges? | Price breakdown and confirmation |
| Gratuities and service charges | Variable | Prepaid, included or added per person per night? | Conditions and invoice |
| Drinks and internet | Often extra | What is complimentary, what does the package cost, and who in the cabin must buy it? | Sailing-specific package terms |
| Specialty restaurants | Often extra | A fixed price or individual items? Is service added? | Restaurant menu and package |
| Shore excursions | Often extra | Transport, language, duration, cancellation and return-to-ship time | Excursion voucher |
| Flights, hotel and transfers | Not automatic | Cruise-only or a package? Which flight sectors and baggage allowances? | Itemized trip quotation |
Per-person price is not the person's final bill
A fare may assume two sharing a cabin, while third and fourth guests have different pricing and separate taxes. A child or infant is not necessarily free; a family cabin may differ from two connecting cabins. Ask for each traveller's breakdown, the cabin total and the group total.
An add-on package is not always a saving
Compare the package cost with expected use: sea days, port hours, drink preferences, internet needs and restaurants you want. An unused package adds to the bill even when discounted.
A local SAR calculator
Turn your quotation into a door-to-door total
Enter the figures in your written quotation. This calculator does not send its inputs to True Travel or save them. The result is an arithmetic estimate, not a price offer or a booking.
Currency and payment timing
Exchange rates can change your trip total
If the ship is priced in dollars or euros and your budget is in riyals, keep the original currency for each item and record the conversion rate, date and card charges. Do not convert the cabin fare while overlooking gratuities and excursions in another currency. Add amounts in their original currency first or convert the whole basket consistently.
Check the payment schedule too: today's deposit and a later balance may use different rates. Include an explicit allowance rather than treating a conversion as fixed, and separate expected currency differences from emergency funds. When comparing two offers on the same day, use one exchange-rate source and recalculate before final payment. This calculator does not provide a live exchange rate or convert currencies automatically.
Choosing between offers
When is a higher fare better value?
Simpler access and a safer arrival margin
A slightly higher fare from a port reached by a direct flight and one hotel night can mean a lower total and less risk than a cheap fare needing multiple flights, nights and complicated transfers.
Practical fit, not a category name
Pay extra when it meets a real need: family capacity, connecting cabins, accessibility, quiet or location. Consider whether a balcony is useful on a cold or port-intensive itinerary before paying for it.
Benefits you will actually use
Internet, drinks or dining may make a package easier to assess, but calculate actual use and read the terms. Compare services, quantities and exclusions, not just the package name.
Flexibility has financial value
A restricted fare can suit a settled plan but creates greater exposure if a visa or work leave is not confirmed. Compare deposits, payment dates, cancellation losses and change costs.
Compare two quotations in seven lines
- The same ship, dates and route, or a genuinely comparable alternative
- Category, cabin number, capacity and occupancy
- Base fare, taxes and port charges
- Gratuities, drinks, internet and paid dining
- Flights, baggage, hotel, transfers and documents
- Excursions, spending and contingency
- Currency, validity, payments, changes and cancellation
Who does this approach suit?
A cruise can offer clear value, or seem more inclusive than it is
Dining and varied activities on one ship can reduce hotel changes. Check children's fares, actual capacity, age-based activities, internet, childcare and connecting cabins.
Your accommodation moves with you, but city time is limited. Include transfers and excursions and do not count every port as a full land day. Judge the actual hours available to explore.
The ship sets arrival and return times and may change ports under its contract. For an in-depth city stay or personal appointments, compare a land trip before choosing a cruise.
An onboard account can make spending less visible in the moment. Set a daily allowance and review charges and extras rather than relying on the word “inclusive”.

Seven mistakes that spoil a comparison
Convert the whole basket on the same day and note payment fees.
Confirm who stays in each cabin, not just the group size.
Look for a written breakdown at the final pricing stage.
Confirm whether they are prepaid, daily or included.
Estimate use based on sea days and port calls.
Include hotel nights and a buffer rather than risking a missed departure.
Compare potential losses, not only the booking-day price.
Frequently asked questions
Cruise cost questions before booking
How much does a cruise from Saudi Arabia cost?
There is no fixed amount. Dates, ship, cabin, occupancy, currency, flights, taxes, gratuities and extras change the total. Compare one complete written cost basket, not the sailing fare alone.
Does the cruise fare include food?
Fares often include specified restaurants and meals, while specialty dining and some services or items may carry fees. Your sailing's fare description and confirmation determine the inclusions.
Are flights included in the cruise fare?
Not automatically. An offer may be cruise-only or include flights in a specified package. Flight sectors, baggage, transfers and hotels must appear explicitly in the quotation.
Are shore excursions included?
They are often sold separately unless the offer states otherwise. Check port hours, cancellation, language and transport before purchasing.
What is the difference between per-person price and cabin total?
A per-person price may assume particular occupancy. The total adds all travellers, taxes, fees and services. Ask for traveller numbers, occupancy, currency and final total clearly.
Are gratuities or service charges included?
This varies by line, market and offer. They may be included, prepaid or charged daily. Confirm the amount and arrangement in writing for each traveller and night.
How do I compare cruise quotations in different currencies?
Convert every item using a documented rate on the comparison date, noting original currency, card fees and possible rate changes. Do not convert only the fare and leave extras in another currency.
What matters most before paying a deposit?
Confirm the ship, dates, itinerary, cabin category, occupancy, currency, inclusions, exclusions, taxes, gratuities, payment schedule, changes and cancellation conditions.
A brief for your True Travel quotation
Share a priceable plan, not just “an inclusive cruise”
Send your departure city, month or date range, nights, traveller numbers, ages, nationalities and residence countries, cabin numbers and categories, total budget and priorities. Do not send sensitive documents in the first message. Say whether you want cruise-only coordination or flights, hotels, transfers, insurance, visa support and shore excursions within the requested scope.
Options depend on sailings, availability and the quotation's scope. Price, cabin and benefits are confirmed only through written confirmation and supplier terms. Visa decisions, boarding acceptance and port changes remain with the relevant authorities and cruise line. See the cruise travel hub and tailor-made trips.
