A decision guide for families travelling from Saudi Arabia · Source review: 27 August 2026
Hurghada for families from Saudi Arabia: beaches, itinerary and budget
Hurghada is more than a boat trip. It is a choice between a quiet resort and a base near the city, and between a sea day that suits your children and a packed schedule that wears them out. This guide helps you decide using real quotations: where to stay, what to do over 5 or 7 days, and how to calculate the final amount in Saudi riyals.
01 · Before confirming your hotel
Getting there from Saudi Arabia and checking entry requirements
Start with the actual flight, not the hotel name. A direct Jeddah–Hurghada service may appear on some dates, while another departure city or date may require a connection. Check the departure and return airports, each traveller's baggage allowance, seat selection and arrival time before comparing prices. When arriving late with children, a confirmed private transfer may be worth more than a small saving on the airfare.
Saudi passport holders
The source review on 27 August 2026 recorded Saudi Arabia among the nationalities eligible for Egypt's official e-Visa. It recorded published tourist fees of USD 30 for single entry and USD 65 for multiple entry, and advice to apply at least seven days before departure. The listed documents generally included a passport valid for at least six months, a printed approval, an itinerary and accommodation booking. These are dated source figures, not a confirmation of today's fees or eligibility. Final admission is decided at the border, and requirements and fees can change.
Residents of Saudi Arabia
Visa eligibility follows your passport nationality and personal circumstances, not Saudi residency alone. Select your nationality on the official portal and check the requirements for a minor travelling with one parent or another accompanying adult. Before paying an intermediary, check its identity and service scope against the official channel.

02 · Your accommodation decision map
Which beach should be your family's base?
No area is best for everyone. Choose the priority that fits your family to see an initial recommendation and its trade-off. Then check the individual hotel: an area's name does not guarantee a sandy beach or a family room.
Makadi Bay
A good fit for a family making resort days, swimming pools or a water park the focus of the trip. The trade-off: repeated trips into the city take time and transport; ask which activities and meals are included.
| Base | Best aligned with | Check | Potential trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Makadi Bay | Long resort days and family activities | Water park operation, children's height requirements, beach and tides | Relatively far from the city |
| Sahl Hasheesh | Quiet surroundings, a promenade and a slower pace | Beach access, room location and open restaurants | Fewer options outside the resort |
| Central Hurghada | Restaurants, the marina, museum and city life | Private beach or an external beach club? Noise and transport | A less secluded resort experience |
| El Gouna | Planned facilities and family options north of the city | Airport transfer time, total price and beach service | Not the closest base for every Hurghada excursion |
When requesting a hotel quotation, give the children's ages and your exact family arrangement. A “family room” may mean an extra bed, not two connecting rooms. Request a photograph or plan of the room category, the number of permanent beds, room size, child policy, meals, drink charges and the actual room-to-beach distance. If a pushchair or reduced mobility matters, ask about ramps, lifts and the surface along the route.
03 · An itinerary with breathing room
A 7-day family itinerary for Hurghada, with a 5-day version
This is a sequence for making decisions, not a ready-booked package. Confirm the boat day after arrival according to the sea conditions and children's ages. Keep a flexible day before departure instead of leaving your main activity to the last opportunity.
- Day 1
Arrive without commitments
A confirmed transfer, check-in, an easy meal and a look around the beach and pool. If you arrive late, do not commit to an early excursion the next morning.
- Day 2
A resort day to find your rhythm
Beach or pool in the morning, a midday break and a short walk later. See how your child manages the sun and water before choosing the third day's activity.
- Day 3
A boat or island trip with clear conditions
Choose one excursion after checking the wind, operator, life jackets, shade, toilet and food. For non-swimmers, ask about a glass-bottom boat or semi-submarine rather than feeling pressured to snorkel.
- Day 4
Hurghada Museum and the marina
A lighter day combining an indoor activity with an evening in town. The museum's official page described around 2,000 objects; the source review on 27 August 2026 recorded foreign-visitor tickets of EGP 300 for adults and EGP 150 for students, with free entry for children under six. These are historical published figures, not a live quotation. Check prices and opening hours for your visit.
- Day 5
The children's choice
A water park if it suits their height and age and is included, or a quiet beach day. Do not combine the water park with a desert excursion in the same day.
- Day 6
A flexible or replacement day
Use it for an activity cancelled because of sea conditions, or for light shopping and a family dinner. Flexibility contributes to a good itinerary; it is not wasted time.
- Day 7
A calm departure
Allow time for breakfast, check-out and the transfer. Check your flight's check-in window rather than scheduling swimming or an excursion on departure morning.
Egypt's official tourism authority describes Hurghada as a destination for year-round sunshine, reefs, islands and water activities, mentioning Giftun Island, the marina, markets and the desert. These are possibilities, not a checklist you have to complete. For a family, two well-chosen days that suit the children's ages are better than five back-to-back excursions.
04 · Your quotation worksheet
Calculate your Hurghada trip budget in Saudi riyals
Enter only prices you have obtained from the airline, hotel and operators. This tool does not save your entries or contact a booking provider. The result is an arithmetic estimate, not a True Travel quotation.
What actually changes the total?
- Baggage, seat selection and airport transfers can make the cheapest airfare more expensive overall.
- One room does not fit every family arrangement. Compare prices for the same beds and child policy.
- All-inclusive may reduce spending on outside meals, but does not mean every restaurant, drink or activity is included.
- Activity prices should specify transfers, equipment, island fees, photographs and cancellation conditions.
- Allow a contingency for exchange-rate changes or a replacement excursion, and separate shopping from the core trip budget.
05 · Weather is not the same as comfort
When to visit Hurghada with children
Hurghada works as a year-round destination, but family comfort depends on tolerance for heat and wind and on the children's ages. Milder periods generally make walking and sitting outside easier, although evenings can be cooler and wind may change a boat plan. Summer suits travellers who want pools and water and are comfortable with strong heat. Schedule outings in the morning and evening, leaving midday for rest or an indoor activity.
Choose a hotel with shade and a suitable pool, then check sea conditions daily. Warm air does not guarantee a calm sea.
Prefer a milder period and bring layers for the evening. Check holidays and hotel demand rather than assuming mild weather means low prices.
Reduce transfers, protect the midday rest break and choose a room near the facilities rather than the most attractive distant view.
A fixed temperature table is not the basis of this decision. Check the city forecast before travelling and wind and sea forecasts before each activity. Consult a reliable weather source and your excursion operator, and keep an alternative at the hotel or in town.
A family packing list for the beach and town
Split sunscreen, hats, swimwear and your family's usual medicines between hand luggage and checked bags. Do not put all the children's essentials in one bag. Bring water shoes if the hotel confirms they are needed, a light layer for evenings or the boat, and a water-resistant document pouch without relying on it as your only protection. Keep digital copies of passports, visas and bookings, and write down the hotel's name and transfer number somewhere other than your phone. Ask the airline about liquids, pushchairs and seats before reaching the airport. Ask the hotel about towels and children's supplies so you do not carry things it already provides. Arrange any medication or special dietary requirement with the relevant professional, carrier and hotel before travel; a packing list is not medical advice.
06 · Safety checks before payment
Boat trips and snorkelling: 10 questions for the operator
- What are the operator's and boat's names, and is the activity licensed and insured?
- What are the minimum age, height and swimming requirements?
- Are child-size life jackets available, and worn whenever required?
- How many guests and guides are there? Who supervises your child in the water?
- Are there shade, a toilet, drinking water and a plan for seasickness?
- Where are the stops, how long is the sailing, and how much time is actually spent in the water?
- What are the wind and wave forecasts, and who decides whether to cancel?
- What alternative or refund is available if the activity is cancelled?
- Are transfers, food, equipment and all fees included?
- Is the activity suitable for any mobility or health requirement you have disclosed to the operator?
The official tourism authority mentions family water activities, shallow water at some locations and water parks. However, a general description does not automatically make an activity suitable for your child. Age, ability, weather and equipment are daily factors the operator must confirm. If someone does not swim or feels uncomfortable on a boat, a glass-bottom boat, museum or resort day is a complete choice, not a lesser version of the trip.
07 · Turn research into a quotation-ready brief
A short brief to prepare before requesting an Egypt itinerary
Family: adults, children and their ages at the time of travel.
Departure: city, flexible or fixed dates and number of nights.
Accommodation: one room or two connecting rooms, meals and mobility requirements.
Pace: mainly resort time, two main activities, or sea and town.
Water: who can swim, and is a boat suitable for everyone?
Budget: a total range in SAR, stating whether flights and shopping are included.
Request a quotation itemising flights, room category, meals, transport, activities, taxes, child conditions and amendment and cancellation policies. Do not compare two totals until these elements match. If an Egypt service or package is unavailable for your dates, the conversation remains a planning consultation, not a promise of an unconfirmed product.

08 · Quick answers
Frequently asked questions about Hurghada for families
Is Hurghada suitable for families travelling from Saudi Arabia?
Yes, if your priorities are a resort, beach and sea activities at a relaxed pace. A successful trip depends on choosing the right base, checking the beach and children's facilities, and leaving a flexible day for wind or tired children.
How long do families need in Hurghada?
Five nights suit a focused break. Six or seven nights give a family more breathing room for a resort day, a sea day, a cultural outing and contingency time. Avoid filling every day with an excursion.
Which is the best area for a family to stay in Hurghada?
Makadi Bay suits resort days and water activities; central Hurghada suits restaurants and city life; Sahl Hasheesh suits quieter stays; and El Gouna offers a planned setting north of the city. Base your choice on the actual beach, room type and transport, not the area name alone.
When is the best time for families to visit Hurghada?
There is no ideal month for every family. Milder periods help with walking, but wind and cool evenings may call for layers. Summer suits heat lovers when mornings, pools and indoor breaks are planned. Check wind and sea forecasts before each activity.
Do Saudi passport holders need a visa for Egypt?
The official Egyptian e-Visa portal listed Saudi Arabia among eligible nationalities in the source review dated 27 August 2026. That review recorded guidance to hold a passport valid for six months and apply at least seven days before travel. Requirements can change; Saudi residents must check their passport nationality. Verify the official portal before paying.
How do I calculate a Hurghada trip budget in SAR?
Add return airfare for each traveller, rooms multiplied by nights and the nightly room rate, transport, activities, food and spending, then a contingency percentage of your choice. Use live quotations with matching terms. The calculator on this page does not fetch market prices.
Is an island or snorkelling trip suitable for every child?
No. Ask about minimum age, swimming ability, child-size life jackets, sea conditions, supervision, shade, toilets and cancellation terms. A glass-bottom boat or a resort day may be a better choice for some families.
Are dolphin sightings guaranteed in Hurghada?
No responsible itinerary should guarantee a wild animal sighting. Choose an operator that respects viewing distance, does not chase marine wildlife and does not allow coral touching or wildlife feeding.
What should I ask the hotel before booking?
Get written confirmation of the room and beds, children's age policy, meals, direct beach access and beach type, actual distance to the water, seasonally heated pools, supervised children's club, stairs or lifts, and any transfer or activity charges not included.
