MOROCCO · 7/10 DAYS · ROUTE BEFORE ROOMS

Morocco itinerary: 7 and 10 days

Seven days: three Marrakech nights, two Casablanca nights and one Rabat night. Ten days: one Casablanca night, one Rabat night, three in Fez and four in Marrakech. Build the airport and transfer days into the plan; Chefchaouen, the Sahara and Essaouira are route choices, not unlimited extras.

Illustrative routes and planning allowances, not live transport schedules or a fixed package.

A one-minute decision

Seven days to focus; ten to expand

7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS

Marrakech and the Atlantic cities

A first-visit route through Marrakech, Casablanca and Rabat. Set its order and last night from the flights you actually book.

10 DAYS / 9 NIGHTS

Give Fez a real stay

Three nights let you explore the medina and choose a quieter or regional day before a dedicated transfer south.

THE RULE

Keep the final night practical

An independently booked train is not a protected airline connection. Compare an open-jaw flight with the cost and time of returning to your arrival airport.

Route builder

Choose your duration and priority

The tool changes an illustrative allocation of nights. It works locally and does not collect a name, date or location, or send your selections.

Trip duration
Main priority

7 days / 6 nights

Three bases, with airport logic built in

The outline starts in Marrakech. The six-night allocation is a starting point, not a reason to sleep far from your departure airport. A Casablanca flight on day seven normally means spending the last night in Casablanca rather than relying on an early intercity connection.

01

Arrive in Marrakech

Marrakech · night 1

Check in, settle and keep the first meal close to your accommodation. Add only a short outing if the flight and luggage collection leave enough time.

02

Marrakech’s historic centre

Marrakech · night 2

Group nearby visits rather than crossing the city repeatedly. Plan a rest break and keep the evening square visit short and flexible.

03

Gardens, museums or a quieter day

Marrakech · night 3

Choose a garden and a museum, neighbourhood time or a suitable excursion. Check timed tickets and allow room to rest instead of adding every attraction.

04

Transfer to Casablanca

Casablanca · night 1

Check out, travel to the correct station, take the booked service and reach your next hotel. Keep the evening easy; a transfer is more than the time spent on the train.

05

Casablanca at a comfortable pace

Casablanca · night 2

Choose a main sight and a coastal or neighbourhood walk. Check opening hours and visit requirements directly before planning a paid activity.

06

Rabat visit and return if needed

Rabat · night 1, or your departure city

A Rabat overnight gives the capital space. If day seven departs from Casablanca, move the final night there instead and visit Rabat within a realistic return schedule.

07

Departure

No additional hotel night assumed

Keep any activity near the hotel and allow check-out, luggage and airport time. The final hotel must match your actual departure airport.

10 days / 9 nights

Four bases because Fez deserves time

This example arrives in Casablanca and departs Marrakech. One night in Casablanca, one in Rabat, three in Fez and four in Marrakech total nine hotel nights. Day six is a transfer day, not an extra sightseeing day.

01

Casablanca arrival

Casablanca · 1 night

Arrival, hotel and one light activity only if time allows.

02

Casablanca to Rabat

Rabat · 1 night

Keep the morning adjustable, then travel, check in and take a short walk.

03

Rabat to Fez

Fez · night 1

Choose a manageable Rabat visit before the booked transfer. Keep dinner close to the riad.

04

Fez medina

Fez · night 2

A local guide can help organise the lanes and craft visits into a coherent walking day.

05

Fez or a regional excursion

Fez · night 3

Choose more city time, or one excursion such as Meknes and Volubilis or Ifrane, subject to current access and operator planning.

06

Fez to Marrakech

Marrakech · night 1

Reserve most of the day for the long transfer, with luggage and hotel access included. Do not book a rigid evening activity.

07

Historic Marrakech

Marrakech · night 2

Two nearby visits, a rest window and a flexible evening.

08

A quieter Marrakech day

Marrakech · night 3

Gardens, a museum, a modern neighbourhood or time at the riad.

09

One optional excursion

Marrakech · night 4

Choose a suitable Atlas outing or Essaouira, not both. Adjust for weather, road time and the group’s energy.

10

Departure

No additional hotel night assumed

Allow an independent airport transfer. If departing Casablanca, move a Marrakech night to Casablanca before the flight.

Returning from Casablanca?

Move a Marrakech night to Casablanca before departure, or arrange another connection with a buffer appropriate to the actual ticket. Do not assume a long same-day ground transfer will protect an international flight.

Transfer notebook

Plan hotel-to-hotel, not station-to-station

Allowances below are editorial planning guidance, not ONCF schedules or guaranteed journey times. Check current services, station names and accommodation access before purchasing transport. Longer services may exceed these broad allowances.

A practical test: a successful transfer day ends with an easy meal and a normal night’s sleep, not three rushed visits to compensate for the journey.

Where to stay

Choose the neighbourhood for your next day

RAK

Marrakech

A medina riad can suit walking, but verify vehicle access, luggage assistance and stairs. A modern hotel district may suit travellers who prioritise easier transfers.

  • Ask for the real drop-off point.
  • Confirm room cooling and lift access.
  • Allow for the airport journey.
CAS

Casablanca

Match the hotel to your actual station or airport and main visit. A cheaper distant room can add taxis and lost time during a one-night stay.

  • Check your ticket’s station name.
  • Confirm visit hours.
  • Keep an easy dinner nearby.
RBA

Rabat

For one night, prioritise simple arrival and departure and access to your chosen walking route. A distant hotel can make a short stay unnecessarily complicated.

  • Confirm arrival arrangements.
  • Check beds and lift access.
  • Plan the next station transfer.
FEZ

Fez

A riad in Fez el-Bali offers character but can require walking from a gate. Agree on a meeting point, luggage help and late-arrival arrangements.

  • Consider a local guide for the first walk.
  • Avoid moving hotels within the stay.
  • Check stairs and room facilities.

Alternatives, not extras

Change the route when priorities change

A stronger itinerary knows what to remove as well as what to add.

Chefchaouen

Consider a northern route through Tangier or Fez. Reduce southern stops and plan the road journey rather than treating it as a short detour.

Merzouga

Give the road and overnight stops dedicated days. Extend the trip or replace the Atlantic or Fez segment; a desert stay is not a spare evening.

Essaouira

A day outing from Marrakech can be long. For a gentler seaside stay, replace another base with two nights rather than adding a fifth hotel.

A slower holiday

In ten days, omit Fez and give more time to Marrakech and a coastal base. Fewer cities can improve meals, rest and the accommodation experience.

Travel together

One route, different daily rhythms

Families with children

  • Keep one main activity before lunch.
  • Check beds, lifts and cooling explicitly.
  • Separate long travel days from walking tours.
  • Use direct transport when luggage logistics are difficult.
  • Protect rest before adding Fez to seven days.

Couples and cultural trips

  • Check riad privacy and stairs.
  • Give crafts and meals time in Fez.
  • Book special experiences after a settled day.
  • Keep a free evening rather than repeating similar tours.
  • Count usable days, not photographed cities.

Three generations

  • Plan at the pace of the least mobile traveller.
  • Confirm nearby drop-off points and seating.
  • Check stairs, bathrooms and walking distances.
  • Use guided visits broken into manageable sections.
  • Keep clear meeting places for optional split activities.

Season and budget

Keep the route connected to real conditions

SEASON

Heat and rain change the timetable

Plan early walking and a midday rest in heat. Mountain excursions need local checks. Compare the Morocco seasonal guide and current conditions before fixing an outdoor day.

BUDGET

Each base adds more than a room

Add transport, baggage handling and lost time when comparing another hotel stop. Get a dated quote with room categories and inclusions rather than assuming a fixed cost.

DESTINATION

Prepare beyond the route

Use the Morocco travel guide for wider destination context. Check entry and airline requirements for each traveller separately before booking.

Common mistakes

Eight decisions that waste usable days

01

Too many cities in a week

Choose a focused route or extend the stay.

02

Chefchaouen as a spare stop

Build a northern route with road time included.

03

Merzouga as a day trip

Give the desert a dedicated multi-day itinerary.

04

Buying the wrong rail connection

Match stations and departures to hotel access.

05

A packed arrival night

Flights, luggage and check-in can erase the planned visit.

06

The final night far from the airport

Move it to the departure city when practical.

07

A riad without access checks

Confirm the gate, luggage help and stairs.

08

A price with no assumptions

Compare dates, rooms, transfers and inclusions.

Frequently asked questions

Before booking hotels and trains

Check current operations and quoted terms for your dates. An old itinerary’s reservations are not a timetable for a new trip.

How many days do I need for a first Morocco trip?

Seven days can cover Marrakech, Casablanca and Rabat with six hotel nights. Ten days allow a meaningful Fez stay, but the Fez–Marrakech transfer still consumes most of a day. Arrival and departure days are not full sightseeing days.

What is a practical seven-day Morocco itinerary?

A starting allocation is three nights in Marrakech, two in Casablanca and one in Rabat. Use the city of your departure airport for the final night and adjust the order to your flight tickets rather than adding a rushed return transfer.

What changes in a ten-day itinerary?

The example adds Fez: one Casablanca night, one Rabat night, three Fez nights and four Marrakech nights. That totals nine nights, with day six kept for the long transfer south.

Should I combine Fez and Marrakech in seven days?

It is possible, but the transfer reduces usable sightseeing time. For a gentler first visit, choose one city with nearby stops or allow ten days for both.

Can I add Chefchaouen to this ten-day route?

Treat it as a route change, not a free extra stop. A northern route through Tangier or Fez may make more sense; remove or reduce southern stops rather than layering it onto a full itinerary.

How many nights should I spend in Marrakech?

Three nights usually leave about two usable days, depending on flight times. Four nights can allow a city day, a quieter gardens or museum day and one suitable excursion. A late arrival is not a full sightseeing day.

How should I travel between the main cities?

Compare current ONCF services for the Marrakech–Casablanca–Rabat–Fez corridor. Mountain and desert trips require separate road planning. Confirm the actual station, timetable and hotel access before purchasing tickets.

Can I include Merzouga in seven or ten days?

Not as a simple Marrakech day trip. A desert-led road itinerary needs dedicated days and overnight stops. Extend the trip or replace another part of the route, then confirm the real distances with your operator.

Where should I spend arrival and departure nights?

Keep arrival light and the final night in your departure city where practical. An independently booked train is not a protected connection to an international flight; allow a realistic buffer.

How do I budget for the itinerary?

Separate flights, hotel nights, trains or private vehicles, tours, food, entrance tickets and contingency. Compare the same dates and room terms. This guide allocates time; it does not publish a fixed package price.
