Iceland budget ledger • Plan in Saudi riyals
Iceland trip cost from Saudi Arabia for couples and families
The short answer: For seven nights, initially budget about SAR 22,000–42,000 for a couple on a value or balanced trip, and about SAR 34,000–62,000 for a family of 2+2. Higher-end accommodation, two rooms, a winter vehicle and more activities can push the total to SAR 70,000–105,000 or more.
These are planning ranges, not a sales offer or an official average. The calculator builds the total from flights, accommodation, food, a vehicle or tours, activities, fees and a contingency.
Amounts are in Saudi riyals for the whole trip, based on seven nights unless stated otherwise. Do not enter personal information: calculations run only in your browser.
How to use this guide
Choose your season and route before asking whether Iceland is expensive
An Iceland budget is more than a hotel rate multiplied by nights. A cheaper vehicle with weak insurance can create risk; a remote hotel can add fuel and driving hours. Organised tours may cost more per person but replace the car, fuel and parking, while family costs can jump when two rooms or a larger vehicle are needed.
Start with one of three levels, then rebuild the total from individual items. For seasons and routes, begin with the Iceland travel guide. Once your dates and party size are clear, open the Iceland packages page (Arabic) to request a dated, live quotation.

Seven-night cost ranges by travel style
These planning ranges follow the calculator’s item-by-item approach. Use them to spot missing inclusions or an unrealistic budget, then replace them with live prices for the same dates.
| Style | Couple | Family 2+2 | Range assumptions | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Value | 22,000–29,000 | 34,000–46,000 | Practical accommodation, some self-catering, an economy vehicle in summer or selected tours | Season, insurance and family-room capacity |
| Balanced | 30,000–42,000 | 45,000–62,000 | Stronger accommodation, a suitable vehicle or tours, planned food and activities | Route, vehicle type and child policies |
| Comfort | 48,000–70,000+ | 68,000–105,000+ | Higher-end accommodation, one or two rooms, a larger vehicle and paid experiences | Peak summer or winter dates and two rooms |
If a price is much lower, ask whether it includes flights and baggage, accommodation for every night, a room suitable for the children’s ages, vehicle insurance, fuel, parking, tours and taxes.
The same route, different economics
Why a family trip does not simply cost twice as much as a couple’s
Couples: one room, with the vehicle shared by two
One double room makes accommodation straightforward, but the vehicle and fuel may cost more per person. Upgrades often come from a better hotel, spa, glacier activity or stronger vehicle. A focused southern route, two main activities and a flexible day can keep the trip manageable.
- Confirm whether breakfast and parking are included.
- Compare vehicles and tours on a door-to-door basis.
- Check the actual room category rather than paying for a view description alone.
Families: room capacity and vehicle size can change the total
A room may accommodate one child but not two, or require a suite or two rooms. Larger vehicles, child seats, baggage and activities have different age policies, although a single vehicle’s cost may be shared by four rather than two.
- Give the children’s ages on arrival.
- Confirm beds, connecting rooms and child seats.
- Reduce hotel changes to cut driving and baggage handling.
Inside the bill
Seven items to check before relying on a total
International flights
Compare prices after adding baggage, seat selection, connection duration and arrival at Keflavík. A late arrival can add a more expensive transfer or an airport-area night.
Record:Departure city, times, baggage, changes and refunds.
Accommodation
Multiply each room’s rate by its nights, then add breakfast, taxes and parking. A hotel’s position along the route may save more time and fuel than a difference in star rating.
Record:Room, occupancy, breakfast, parking and cancellation.
Vehicle or tours
For driving, add rental, insurance, drivers, child seats, fuel and parking. For tours, add transfers, meeting points and any activity not included in the fare.
Record:Category, coverage, language and weather policy.
Daily food
Set a group budget. Included breakfast or an apartment kitchen changes daily spending; remote accommodation may leave fewer evening choices.
Record:Breakfast, groceries, restaurants, water and children’s meals.
Fuel, parking and transfers
Do not hide local transport inside the rental figure. Include route fuel, parking, airport transfers, alternative routes and child seats if excluded from the rental.
Record:Distance, fuel type, parking and waiting time.
Activities
Keep thermal-lagoon visits, glacier tours and museums separate. Ask about transfers, equipment, weather policies and minimum ages.
Record:Operator, time, alternative and cancellation.
Fees and contingency
Add card and bank charges and essentials, then a 10–15% contingency. This is not a shopping allowance: it covers a forgotten item or an operational change.
Record:Currency, exchange-rate date and locally payable items.
Your route is part of the bill
Vehicle or tours? Compare the complete route, not only the booking price
Reykjavík plus day tours
This reduces driving and weather responsibilities and makes daily costs clearer, but can become expensive for a family and restrict departure and return times.
- Add the tour, hotel pickup and meals.
- Check the meeting point and cancellation policy.
- Leave a day for the city or Reykjavík City Card.
Self-drive in the south
This gives more flexible stops, but the real price includes insurance, fuel, parking and an additional driver—not just the rental.
- Match the vehicle to the season and route.
- Check road and weather conditions daily.
- Keep the arrival-day drive manageable.
A wider circular route
This needs more nights, weather flexibility and a suitable vehicle. Squeezing the Ring Road into a week can add fuel and hotel changes while reducing the value of the trip.
- Calculate kilometres and nights before booking.
- Keep an alternative for road closures or poor visibility.
- Do not let inflexible reservations dictate the route.
Save intelligently, not at any cost
A savings ladder that protects your trip
- Largest impact
Compare two or three date windows
Compare the same flight route and room category on flexible dates. Moving by a week may save more than several small cuts at the destination.
- Route choice
Reduce hotel changes before squeezing the route
A well-chosen base for two or three nights reduces fuel and baggage handling and provides room for weather changes.
- Accommodation value
Compare the full hotel cost, not only the room rate
Add breakfast or half-board, transfers, location and fees before deciding. The cheapest night is not always the cheapest trip.
- Intentional activities
Choose two main experiences
Book the experiences that matter most, leaving free time for waterfalls, walks and scenery, with a weather alternative.
- Protect this
Do not cut costs with an unsuitable vehicle or insurance
A vehicle unsuitable for the season or unclear coverage can turn a small saving into a large risk. Understand exclusions and road restrictions before paying.
Match the specifications before comparing two quotations
Put each quotation into the same rows. If a cell cannot be filled, the quotation is incomplete—not yet proven cheaper.

An exchange-rate reference, not your card’s rate
The Arabic guide’s dated reference is the Central Bank of Iceland fixing on 25 August 2026: ISK 121.25 per US dollar. Using SAR 3.75 per dollar gives about SAR 31 per ISK 1,000 before bank or card margins. This is a historical planning reference, not a current exchange-rate check.
Use conversion only for comparison, then record the actual rate on the payment date. Do not anchor the whole budget to one currency snapshot.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about Iceland trip costs
How much does an Iceland trip from Saudi Arabia cost for two?
For initial planning over seven nights, allow roughly SAR 22,000–42,000 for a couple on a value or balanced trip. A higher-end trip can exceed SAR 70,000. These are not selling prices: season, flights, accommodation, vehicle and activities change the result.
What does Iceland cost for a family of four?
For two adults and two children over seven nights, the value planning range is about SAR 34,000–46,000 and the balanced range SAR 45,000–62,000. Two rooms, a larger vehicle or paid activities may raise it. Children’s ages and room capacity are decisive.
Are children charged half the adult price?
There is no universal rule. Airlines, hotels, vehicle providers and activity operators use different age bands and policies. A child may need a full seat, a second room or a child car seat. State their age at travel in every quotation.
Is Iceland really expensive?
Accommodation, food and activities can be costly, but the word expensive alone is not useful. A Reykjavík base with tours differs substantially from a self-drive trip with several hotels. Compare identical dates, route, room and insurance.
What is usually the largest expense?
Accommodation and international flights are often the largest items, followed by the vehicle and insurance or tours. A longer route adds fuel, dispersed overnight stays and change risks. Calculate the whole route rather than only a vehicle or hotel rate.
How much should I allow for food each day?
There is no fixed amount. Restaurants versus groceries, kitchen access, included breakfast and group size all change the cost. Start with a daily group allowance in the calculator, then replace it with a meal plan for your itinerary.
Is self-driving cheaper than organised tours?
It depends on group size, season, route and insurance. A vehicle may offer better value for a group, while tours remove fuel, parking and winter-driving responsibilities. Compare door-to-door totals for the same activities.
Do I need a weather and road contingency?
Generally allow 10–15% for planning, because a changed road, overnight stay or activity can affect the budget. A contingency does not cover every disruption and does not replace suitable insurance or flexible terms.
How can I convert Icelandic króna to Saudi riyals?
The guide’s historical Central Bank of Iceland reference for 25 August 2026 was ISK 121.25 per US dollar. With the riyal’s dollar peg, this gives about SAR 31 per ISK 1,000 before bank or card margins. Use the actual rate on your payment date.
How can I save without spoiling the trip?
Compare two or three date windows, reduce hotel changes, choose two main activities and compare kitchen access or included breakfast. Do not save by choosing a vehicle unsuitable for the season, removing insurance or overloading the route.
When should I book for a better price?
Start comparing early for summer and holidays, but no fixed number of days guarantees a lower price. Compare flexible windows with identical specifications and confirm cancellation, baggage, room and vehicle conditions before calling a figure better value.
Does this calculator show a live quotation?
No. It runs in your browser, does not send or store inputs, and adds your own assumptions. The result is a planning budget including a contingency—not an offer, booking or availability guarantee.
