UK trip cost from Saudi Arabia for couples and families

For a balanced trip of 8 days and 7 nights in London, allow around SAR 18,000–29,000 for two or SAR 31,000–49,000 for a family of 2+2. These are planning ranges before shopping, not a bookable offer. Use the calculator below to turn quotes for your dates into an itemised estimate.

QUICK ANSWER

How much should you budget for the UK?

Flights and accommodation drive most of the difference, but smaller recurring costs can undermine a UK budget: airport transfers, daily transport, meals for four, a second-city train and timed attractions. Build one complete trip basket rather than multiplying a flight fare by the number of travellers and adding a hotel.

COUPLE

SAR 18,000–29,000

Economy flights for two, a good room for seven nights, balanced meals, public transport, two or three activities and a reserve. Flexible dates can bring the total near SAR 15,000–17,000; a premium central hotel and flexible flights can take it above SAR 38,000.

FAMILY 2+2

SAR 31,000–49,000

Four flight seats, a confirmed family room or two rooms, plus meals, transport and activities priced by age. A child is not automatically half an adult in every category: airlines, hotels, TfL and attractions use different age rules.

ROUTE

London only as the baseline

The base range does not include Edinburgh or Manchester. Another city adds rail fares, station transfers and potentially a different room rate. Price a new route rather than attaching an arbitrary amount to London.

ASSUMPTION TICKET

Seven checks behind a useful estimate

Duration

8 days and 7 nights; arrival and departure are not two full sightseeing days.

Route

Mainly central London, with no intercity train in the base total.

Departure

Riyadh or Jeddah as search starting points; city, stops and baggage change the airfare.

Accommodation

A good double or confirmed family room, comparing taxes and booking conditions.

Exchange rate

GBP 1 = SAR 5 for planning. The source reference was SAR 4.98806 on 28 July 2026.

Entry

ETA at the government fee of £20 for eligible travellers; nationality, not Saudi residence alone, determines the route.

Reserve

10% after essentials, kept separate from shopping and upgrades.

Do not reuse the range unchanged for 12 nights, holiday peaks or a five-star hotel. Change the calculator values and date each quote to make the estimate relevant to your booking.

THREE SERVICE LEVELS

One UK trip, three different budgets

Flexible

SAR 15,000–19,000 for two

Economy flights with a workable stop, a simple transport-connected hotel, free museums and practical meals. This requires flexible dates and properly included baggage, not an isolated room or unsuitable non-changeable bookings.

Balanced

SAR 18,000–29,000 for two

A good room, practical economy flights, daily London transport, two or three activities, varied meals and a reserve. This is the guide baseline: comfortable travel without assuming luxury or football.

Comfort

SAR 29,000–40,000+ for two

A stronger central hotel, direct or more flexible flights, restaurants, private experiences and comfortable transfers. Luxury rooms and premium theatre seats have no fixed upper ceiling; compare defined inclusions.

A family is not the couple scenario multiplied by two. You may share one room or need two; an eight-year-old and a fifteen-year-old can have different transport and attraction fares. Start with ages, beds and room type, then use SAR 31,000–49,000 only as an initial check.

THE TRIP BASKET

Where does the UK budget go?

01

Flights from Saudi Arabia

SAR 2,700–5,000 per person

This is a planning range for return economy flights, not a live fare. Departure city, date, stops, baggage and change conditions affect the result. Record the final cost after choosing bags and seats, not the first search headline.

A morning arrival may gain useful time but require early check-in or leave you tired. A cheaper late arrival may need a private transfer. Compare cost, arrival time and airport together: Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted do not have identical transfer costs.

02

Accommodation

SAR 700–1,800 per room per night

This planning range covers flexible to comfortable options outside peak periods, not live inventory. Neighbourhood, direct transport links, room type and cancellation terms matter more than stars alone. A cheaper hotel outside London can consume the saving in rail fares and time.

For a family, obtain written confirmation of occupancy, beds and ages. A family-room label does not guarantee space or separate beds. If you need two rooms, raise the nightly room allowance in the calculator before choosing the duration.

03

Food

SAR 150–350 per adult per day

A simple breakfast, quick lunch and relaxed dinner can fit this range. Hotel restaurants and special dinners push it up. Choose one higher-priced experience instead of accidentally making every day a luxury day.

Allow SAR 80–200 per child depending on age and family habits. A kitchen can reduce some meal costs but does not automatically save money if the apartment is expensive or poorly located; compare the complete product.

04

Transport within London

£8.90 adult daily cap in Zones 1–2: planning reference

The source guide uses £8.90 daily, around SAR 45 at GBP 1 = SAR 5, and £44.70 for a Monday-to-Sunday week as its 2026 reference. Confirm the current TfL cap, travel zones and payment method for your dates rather than treating this reference as a guaranteed fare.

Airport journeys and travel beyond Zones 1–2 are outside that assumption. Children aged 5–10 can travel free on specified TfL services with an eligible accompanying adult, subject to the rules. Older children need the appropriate fare arrangement. Each paying traveller needs their own payment method.

05

A train to a second city

A variable item, not a fixed allowance

National Rail Advance fares are limited and tied to a specified service, usually released up to 12 weeks ahead. Children aged 5–15 receive a 50% Advance discount under the published rules. Railcards can offer savings, but include the card price and check eligibility.

Adding Edinburgh or Manchester involves tickets, station transfers, time and possibly a hotel change. Enter the actual rail quote under intercity rail / airport transfers; the cheapest service is unsuitable if it puts your international flight at risk.

06

Activities

SAR 400–1,500 per person per trip

The allowance depends on theatre, tours and paid attractions. Many national museums and galleries have free permanent collections, including the British Museum, Natural History Museum and Tate Modern; special exhibitions may charge.

Build a day around one paid attraction, then add a market, park or free museum. Avoid stacking several non-refundable timed bookings on arrival day or immediately after a long train journey.

07

ETA, insurance and connectivity

ETA: £20 per eligible traveller

GOV.UK lists the ETA fee as £20. An ETA does not guarantee entry; nationality and the purpose of travel determine whether an ETA or visa is appropriate. Each eligible traveller needs their own authorisation, including babies and children.

Saudi residents travelling on non-Saudi passports should check the requirement for their nationality rather than assume the Saudi-citizen route applies. Allow separately for insurance, connectivity and card fees. An ETA is an electronic travel authorisation, not a visitor visa.

A balanced family example

In the calculator: SAR 13,000 flights, 11,900 accommodation, 5,680 food, 2,740 transport, 2,600 activities, 400 ETA and 1,000 other essentials, followed by a 10% reserve. The result is about SAR 41,052. This demonstrates the method, not a promised price.

ROUTE CHANGES

London only or London plus another city?

LON

7 nights in London

The simplest first-trip baseline avoids a hotel move and intercity rail, while allowing activities to move with the weather. One city does not require a Zone 1 hotel: direct, suitable transport connections are the priority.

LON → MAN

London + Manchester

Add the train, hotel change and transfers at both stations, then remove two or three London nights. If the purpose is football, fixture timing and the ticket require a separate sports budget.

LON → EDI

London + Edinburgh

Allow more time or make a clear rail-versus-domestic-flight decision. Include airport access, bags and time when comparing the options, not just the ticket price.

SPEND LESS, TRAVEL WELL

Savings that preserve the trip

  1. Test two complete date sets: total flights, accommodation and transport for each set; do not combine figures from different weeks.
  2. Choose connections before postcodes: a hotel on a direct line may save more time and taxis than a cheaper distant room.
  3. Book Advance after fixing the route: lower fares trade flexibility for a specific service; stabilise flights first.
  4. Mix free and paid experiences: a museum, park and market alongside one paid activity can fill a day without stacking tickets.
  5. Use TfL caps correctly: check each traveller’s payment method and children’s rules before buying an unnecessary product.
  6. Separate the match budget: add a distinct allowance for tickets, membership and sports-related transport if you include football.
  7. Protect the reserve: shopping is not an emergency. Keep a separate shopping limit that can be removed without affecting accommodation or the return journey.

Three ways to stress-test the budget

Raise flights by 15%, replace a family room with two rooms, and add a night or private airport transfer. If the result still fits your ceiling, the budget is resilient. Otherwise change dates, duration or neighbourhood before paying for a non-refundable booking.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

UK costs in Saudi riyals: FAQs

How much does a UK trip from Saudi Arabia cost for two?

For a balanced 8-day, 7-night London trip, use SAR 18,000–29,000 for two before shopping as a planning range. Flights, neighbourhood, hotel level and season change it; replace the calculator assumptions with quotes for your dates.

What should a family of four budget for the UK?

For two adults and two children, a balanced seven-night planning range is around SAR 31,000–49,000. Confirmed room capacity, child airfares and age rules for transport and attractions matter more than doubling a couple’s budget.

Does the budget include a UK ETA?

The calculator allows £20 per eligible traveller, including children: about SAR 100 at GBP 1 = SAR 5. Check the official requirement for each passport nationality. A traveller who needs a visa must replace the ETA allowance with the correct cost.

How much per person per day in London, excluding the hotel?

Use SAR 300–600 per person per day for food, local transport and some activities as a planning range, then adjust for paid experiences. Many national museums have free permanent collections; theatre, tours and commercial attractions increase spending.

How much does London transport cost?

The source guide uses a 2026 reference of £8.90 for an adult daily Zones 1–2 cap, around SAR 45 at GBP 1 = SAR 5. Confirm current TfL fares and payment rules for your dates. Airports, outer zones and intercity rail are outside this figure; children’s conditions vary by age and payment arrangement.

Is London more expensive than Manchester or Edinburgh?

London accommodation often creates the largest pressure, but adding a city does not automatically save money: trains, station transfers and different room dates add costs. Compare the whole route rather than an isolated nightly rate.

How can I reduce UK trip costs?

Compare two complete date sets, choose a transport-connected neighbourhood, book Advance trains after fixing the route and mix free museums with a main paid activity. Keep baggage and cancellation conditions in the comparison.

Does this page include the cost of attending a match?

No. This is a general UK tourism budget. Match tickets, membership, fixture confirmation and purchasing risks belong in the separate London match-trip guide so that sports costs do not get mixed into ordinary sightseeing.

When should I refresh the estimate before booking?

Recalculate when dates are fixed and again immediately before payment. Flights, hotels and rail fares change. The planning rate of SAR 5 per GBP is not a guaranteed card or exchange-bureau rate.

SOURCES AND METHOD

What is official, and what is estimated?

The government ETA page, TfL fare information, National Rail conditions and VisitBritain guidance provide the official reference points. The dated SAMA figure and TfL amounts are retained as planning references, not newly certified live rates. Flight, hotel, food and activity ranges are estimates, not supplier inventory or bookable offers.

The source exchange-rate reference is SAR 4.98806 per GBP dated 28 July 2026, rounded to 5.00 in the calculator. Check the official current fee, exchange rate, supplier quote and product terms before payment.
